ICD-10 Preparation
By Christel Chuderewicz, RHIT, CCS
It is time to turn our focus on October 1, 2013, for the ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS implementation. This change will affect multiple aspects of hospital operations as we know them today. Kudos to those of you who have already begun gearing up for the changes, and already have committees in place.
For those of us, and I am sure there are many, who have not, there is a wealth of information available on time line implementation, including important check lists through the American Hospital Association.. To view a complete advisory from the AHA, visit the AHA's Central Office ICD-10 Resource Centre at http://www.ahacentraloffice.org/ICD-10.
From a coding education perspective, the bulk of education and training on the new system should be an ongoing process.

Fusion Forum 2010 User's Conference and Training Workshop Recap
By: Traci Miller, Dolbey, Marketing Executive
The Fusion Forum User's Conference and Training Workshop is my favorite event. This is our fourth biennial User's Conference and I truly enjoyed the opportunity to meet our end users and watch them interact with each other. This event allows our end users and potential customers to come together for training and networking. This year Dolbey held the 2010 Fusion Forum in conjunction with AHIMA to assist those hospitals whose travel budgets have been constricted by allowing them the opportunity to attend two conferences while only having to pay the travel expenses of one.

ICD-10 Timetable — Where Do You Stand?
By Lindsey Getz, For The Record
Experts agree that planning for the seismic shift in coding operations should be well under way.
While October 1, 2013, may seem like another lifetime, the truth is if healthcare organizations haven’t started planning for ICD-10 implementation, then they’re already behind. There is definitely a false sense of timing, says Rhonda Buckholtz, CPC, CPMA, CPC-I, CGSC, CPEDC, COBGC, CENTC, vice president of business and member development for the American Academy of Professional Coders. “The year 2013 may seem like a long time away and [as a result], organizations are making the mistake of not dedicating the time necessary now to properly implement and plan,” she says.

The Word's Out
By Renee Diiulio, Contributing Writer for Imaging Economics.
As speech recognition systems evolve, radiologists find the technologies are increasingly useful tools to save time and costs.
In—the—early—days—of—speech—recognition—technology—users—of—the—software—had—to—speak—slowly—and—clearly. And—even—them (then)—there—were—many—misidentified—worlds (words).
Not so today. Speech and voice recognition systems have come a long way, and while no technology translates everything perfectly, expanding capabilities have increased both usefulness and effectiveness. Transcription is cleaner, and turnaround time faster. The introduction of structured data and integration with other databases, such as the EMR (electronic medical record), can increase value further and help provide a quick return on investment.

Dolbey Completes Phase One of Fusion CAC Implementation at Adventist Health System
WASHINGTON, D.C., April 13, 2010 – Today at the American Health Information Management Association’s (AHIMA) Computer-Assisted Coding Summit, Dolbey announced that it has completed, along with Artificial Medical Intelligence, the first phase of its Fusion CAC™ implementation at Adventist Health System in Orlando, Florida.
The implementation process at Adventist began in late September and moved along quickly with a pilot go-live in early March with corporate coding staff. Fusion CAC utilizes proprietary and patent-pending natural language processing (NLP) technology from Artificial Medical Intelligence to pre-code medical charts. The result is increased coder efficiency, reduced coding variability and a positive impact on the revenue cycle.
